Skinner Releasing Technique is a dance training methodology combining technique with creative process, which is greatly influencing today's dancing aesthetics. By cultivating effortlessness, one begins letting go of unnecessary holding in the physical self, gaining flexibility, efficiency, freedom. Through guided imagery, music and hands-on partner studies the practice facilitates a deep kinesthetic experience of movement and in time a shedding of outer layers. It is an experiential, intuitive approach that utilizes imagery as a powerful tool for transformation. Open to all, with or without formal movement

Parent and Child Video Project
Still time to join in!

Thank you to those of you who have volunteered for our archiving project!

We will be beginning Sept 10.

If you participated in our Parent Child classes last year, we need your help!
We had the privilege of receiving a Canada Arts Council grant to develop the MamaDances pedagogy. The Council recognizes MamaDances to be a valuable idea and is encouraging the development of the pedagogy behind it in order to train more teachers in the MamaDances method.

For this purpose, we need to videotape classes and exercises. Thanks to all involved, we completed the filming of Mother-Baby Dance classes last spring.  We’re now planning to shoot the Parent-Child pedagogy.

When:
Saturdays Sept 10, 17 and 24 at UQAM (840 Rue Cherrier )
Sundays Sept 11, 18, 25 at Studio D (5445 Rue Gaspé)
10–11 am

Please let us know your availabilities as soon as possible if you’d like to participate!

Thank you for your time, trust and generosity! We’re beyond grateful for your support, as always!

Vanessa Arcega

Vanessa has been dancing for as long as she can remember, starting with classical ballet in Mexico. Throughout her journey, she has been exploring different styles : flamenco, jazz, African and Latin dances, contemporary dance, corporate dance shows, etc. Her objective was not to become a professional dancer, but to explore movement for each style, which is why she navigates through different types of dance. She is mainly interested in the pleasure and wellbeing that dancing provides—this is what matters most to her. In her approach, she is seeking pleasure through the appropriation of technique, as being aware of the importance of technique is essential to dance. She has been teaching Pilates since 2003, and for cardio, she teaches Zumba, Zumba kids and fitness classes for seniors.

For her, MamaDances’ classes offer a space for creativity, sharing and wellbeing for moms who want to move together with the little ones as a source of inspiration

Business development expertise needed!

MamaDances continues to look for a business development fairy godparent. We have lots of ideas and opportunities and need some advice  to implement them.

Cross promotion and Sponsorship

It is our mandate to promote like-minded local businesses, artists and community endeavors on our Facebook page, web-site and newsletter. If you believe that what you do is valuable and relevant to our constituency and would like to propose a cross promotional opportunity with MamaDances, please contact [email protected].

Once again it is time for our current administrator to move on to other adventures. We are looking for a bilingual candidate (FR and EN) who would be responsible for client communications.
MamaDances has a virtual office so the candidate would be working from home using his or her own phone and computer, be available one day a week consistently and check emails and phone messages everyday.
