Artistic Director's Message
This winter is record breaking! Despite the cold and the snow, MamaDances has a slew of great classes running and they are filled to the brim with warmth and playfulness. My personal work continues to be sustained motivation between two very different states: Registration periods are crazy, soul-gripping, on-line hours of insecurity. One week before classes are scheduled to start, I hit rock bottom, convinced of being a total failure in need of a real job. Then, the classes roll out and the registration numbers begin increasing and the excitement sets in. The dance studios come alive with moms and babies and parents and children. Present in body, my breath deepens, and I connect to my inner wisdom and my knowledge. I look out into the room and I see unconditional love in motion and I am certain that I am on the right path. Keeping me sane, and our marketing expenses within reason, is your thoughtfulness. Thank you.
 MamaDances Spring Session

Our Policies Drop-in and Free Trial Classes:
Here are a few things people always ask me about: Drop-ins: We welcome drop-ins once someone has done a whole session and we have become familiar with each other. There are a few reasons for this. Success of the class is contingent upon developing trust and familiarity. An unfamiliar presence in the room can cause distraction and disrupt the flow. If we permit drop-in to one person we must permit it for all. If everyone chose to do drop-in we would have no guarantee of covering our expenses. We require commitment. Also, the class material is accumulative. Drop-ins without a reference point would be quite lost. Free Trial Classes: People often ask me why we don’t offer a free trial class. The reason is that we have no marketing budget. A free trial class still requires a studio and a teacher. These elements are not free. There are a few exceptions when others provide us the facilities to run a free class. PreNatal Dance Spring 2015. We are seeking pregnant volunteers to attend exploratory prenatal dance classes at our Montreal sites during which time we will be further refining the pedagogy and choreography for our prenatal classes. The schedule is to be determined. MamaDances prenatal dance session will combine traditional dance practices with Skinner Releasing Technique to address some essential elements of childbirth: spiraling, opening, breathing, softening. Participants will prepare themselves physically, mentally and spiritually for this transformation of our lives and prepare to be the channel through which the future of humanity is brought forth. If you are interested, please contact [email protected] and let us know in which neighborhood would you prefer the class. Become a MamaDances Teacher We support your desire to develop your career as a dance professional and teacher by offering a MamaDances Teacher Certification Course. This can be a parallel career or can be added to other studio programming. The certification course includes: Post-natal health, baby wearing, and we provide the written copyrighted pedagogy of both our Parent Child and Mom and Baby Dance Programs and supporting on-line videos. To be eligible, you must have formal professional dance training or its equivalent in dance experience, teaching experience and a love for babies and children. You must have a good sense of humour and ideally, but not absolutely, you are a mother or parent. Those interested should send a letter of interest and curriculum vitae to [email protected] Our next Certification Course will be held July 6-19th, 2015 in Montreal.
