Mama dances is a dance class which brings mothers together with their babies in a temporary community of music, playful physical excercise, creative dance expression, exploration and connection. It is a simple activity designed to unlock, motivate and engage kinetic, physical energy, while being with your baby (2-12 mos.).
The class consists of the following elements:
• Warming up: Exercises for stretching and limbering, and getting the strength, co-ordination, alignment and articulation back in our bodies.
• Movement studies: Exploring physical ideas, which engage the imagination with a physically playful attitude.
• Dancing: with our babies in our arms to African, Indian and Latin American rhythms. Waltzing, tangoing and free form dancing around the room.
• Learning choreographed sequences that we practice together, in unison and in groups.
• Massage techniques, lullabies and moments of "just being" give us presence and effortless availability, infusing the spirit with peace and joy.
• Mama dances classes are drawn from various sources including Tai Chi, Chi Gong, Releasing Technique, Pilates, Yoga, and Ballet, Creative, Modern and Cultural dance forms.
• Experience in movement techniques is not required to participate in this class. It is open to all. Bring comfortable loose-fitting clothing. |
