Mama dances is a dance class which brings
mothers together with their babies in a temporary community of music,
playful physical excercise, creative dance expression, exploration and
connection. It is a simple activity designed to unlock, motivate and
engage kinetic, physical energy, while being with your baby (2-12 mos.).
The class consists of the following elements:
- Warming up: Exercises for stretching and limbering, and getting the
strength, co-ordination, alignment and articulation back in our bodies.
-
Movement studies: Exploring physical ideas, which engage the
imagination with a physically playful attitude.
- Dancing: with our babies in our arms to African, Indian and Latin
American rhythms. Waltzing, tangoing and free form dancing around the
room.
- Learning choreographed sequences that we practice together,
in unison and in groups.
-
Massage techniques, lullabies and moments of "just being" give us
presence and effortless availability, infusing the spirit with peace
and joy.
-
Mama dances classes are drawn from various sources including Tai Chi,
Qi Gong, Releasing Technique, Pilates, Yoga, and Ballet, Creative,
Modern and Cultural dance forms.
- Experience in movement techniques is not required to participate in
this class. It is open to all. Bring comfortable loose-fitting clothing.
