Liliona Quarmyne

liliona

Liliona comes from a rich, eclectic performing arts background in dance and theatre. She began dancing as a little girl, and continued on with training in jazz, ballet, musical theatre, hip-hop, acting, and African dance. She has a BA and a MA in the performing arts, has over 10 years of teaching experience in a variety of dance forms, and continues to perform, working mostly recently with Compagnie Danse Nyata Nyata and with MamaDances.

Following the birth of her little girl, Zya, Liliona cherishes the opportunity to further enhance the natural and instinctive connection she feels between 2 of the earth’s most fundamental acts – mothering and movement. Dancing with Zya challenges Liliona to search for integrity – in every step, Zya asks her to be present, aware, and open. Dancing together also encourages both Liliona and Zya to learn from one another, to deepen their relationship, to breathe (which Zya is better at than Liliona!), to love, to laugh, to question, and to expand. Liliona believes that dancing with her daughter is essential to her development as a mother, as a woman, and as an artist.
